Full description
Today, it’s undeniable that non-profit organizations (NPOs) play a key role in Quebec’s social and economic balance. In 2022, there were some 57,000 NPOs in the province, employing nearly 616,000 people and contributing 10% of the wealth created in Quebec, i.e. approximately $43 billion. This clearly illustrates the importance of Quebec NPOs to our collective well-being. Their role is further enhanced by the fact that these organizations are active in all sectors, from education and health to culture and employment.
Nevertheless, due to their specific realities, notably funding challenges and a model based in part on volunteerism, NPOs face major organizational challenges that can limit their social impact. Witness to this reality, many players have gradually set up initiatives to support NPOs. Many areas are covered, from governance and volunteer management to funding. Over time, these efforts have contributed to the structuring of a whole ecosystem of support for NPOs. Although essential for addressing the specific needs and challenges of NPOs, this ecosystem remains difficult to identify.
It was precisely to facilitate NPO access to the available resources that this database was conceived and developed as part of a research collaboration. Its ambition is to become a reference point for NPOs seeking support. Our aim was to create a user-friendly platform, enabling organizations to filter support offers according to specific criteria.
Finally, PhiLab aims to make this database an evolving and interactive tool. New offers of support will be added progressively. A registration form has been set up to enable support players to register and contribute to the database.
