Many transformations that disrupt North American philanthropy seem to be caused by a polarization of the philanthropic spectrum. Foundations are divided more and more between two paradigms, structurally antagonistic as much by their interpretation of social problems as by their approach of them. On the right, with financial means of titanic proportions, we are witness to the development of philanthrocapitalism that applies market logic to its interventions. On the left, albeit more marginally, is the rising of a philanthropy of social change that aims to support communities in organizing themselves so that they take care of the problems that concern them.
