Published on May 30 2018

The PhiLab team at the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) is proud to announce that it has won a major research partnership grant from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC). The grant application, developed under the leadership of Peter Elson (Victoria University), Jean-Marc Fontan (UQAM) and Sylvain Lefèvre (UQAM) in close collaboration with Hilary Pearson (Philanthropic Foundations Canada (PFC) and Lee Rose (Community Foundations of Canada (SWC) is titled: “Evaluating the Role and Actions of Canadian Granting Foundations in Addressing the Issue of Social Inequalities and Environmental Challenges.” It should be noted that PhiLab is a research unit involved in the Research Center for social innovations (CRISES).

About thirty partners from the philanthropic community in Quebec and Canada and fifty researchers and students are grouped around a vast partnership program of co-construction and joint valorisation of knowledge on Canadian granting philanthropy. The project runs for six years (2018-2024) and represents a grant of $ 4.4 million, including $ 2.5 million from SSHRC and $ 1.9 million in cash and in kind from the partners mobilized.

Many thanks to them for their commitment to this vast project, which represents a first major collaboration in Quebec and Canada between the university sector and the philanthropic fundraising community. ”
