Since the start of her studies, Katia Scherer has combined her scientific knowledge to educational and environmental awareness activities. Her Bachelors’ degree in Geography and in Anthropology in Quebec and in Brazil were combined with collective actions against food waste, involvement in university projects on agroecology and in different organizations aimed at increasing food autonomy in urban settings.

Currently, Katia is a Master’s student in Environmental Sciences and researcher for the Chaire de recherche UQAM sur la transition écologique. A PhiLab student since 2019, she participates in their activities and academic seminars on a regular basis. Katia is passionate about the development of local food networks, which is why she chose to conduct her research on citizen contribution to the development of more just and sustainable food systems.
