Food aid can be qualified as a cause as old as philanthropy itself. As long as poverty and food insecurity – its necessary counterpart – exist, we can argue that charitable aid will be required. That being said, the food aid provided by charities is no longer limited to the immediate alleviation of the needs of those once described as miserable by charity once upon a time. Even in this area, philanthropy has been able to revamp itself and improve its activities by following the changing realities of people’s nutrition. This newsletter highlights how philanthropic organizations are adapting their interventions and expanding their fields of action to meet people’s needs better or even bring about changes in the food system.
