Benoît Lévesque is professor emeritus of the department of Sociology at Université du Québec à Montréal and associate professor at the École nationale d’administration publique (ENAP). He is a regular member of the Centre de recherche sur les innovations sociales (CRISES) and of PhiLab.
Benoît Lévesque was one of the first, in Quebec, to make social innovation a research subject and to make the connection with social transformation. He proposed a conceptualization of Quebec’s social innovation system that would integrate the role of social and economic actors. Social economy theorist and engaged man, he has also contributed to positioning the social economy as an integral part of Quebec’s economic development, as much as an idea as on the practical front.
M. Lévesque has collaborated on and directed many publications. Notably, his work on solidarity finance-based finance, Union action or territorial development are a major contribution to the dissemination of social innovation in Quebec over the past 30 years.
