Description
- Phase 1 (Research design) : This funding will lay the foundation for a research program focused on philanthropic support for local journalism in Canada. The project’s overarching goal is to produce a working paper that will provide a common knowledge base for all the players (news organizations, foundations and community foundations) involved in the emerging area of philanthro-journalism.
- Phase 2 (Implantation Phase) : The goal of this project is to produce a research report outlining best practices/potential pitfalls of philanthropic support for local journalism in Canada. The report will inform news organizations and funders at a time when new tax rules are allowing news organizations to operate as non profits and when interest in philanthropic support for journalism is growing.
