To combat inequalities, commitments for philanthropy – Identification of illustrative cases of the application of the proposed commitments

Collectif des fondations québécoises contre les inégalités

Research summary

Description

The Collective of Quebec Foundations is a network of some fifteen foundations that share a concern for social and economic inequalities, and that are concerned that the State and philanthropy can optimize their respective contributions with a view to reducing them.

In 2019, the members of the Collective of Foundations conducted a process of reflection on taxation and philanthropic organizations. The Collective thus wanted to equip itself to participate constructively in the public dialogue on the role of taxation in reducing social inequalities. To do this, he sought to better understand the potential impact of the tax treatment of foundations on the problem of inequality. In a context of renewed critical examination of philanthropy, he also wished to reflect on the position that foundations concerned with contributing to the reduction of inequalities could adopt.
