Case study on the process of emergence and development of Collectif des fondations québécoises contre les inégalités

Collectif des fondations québécoises contre les inégalités

Research summary

Research approach

The project aims to update a case study previously carried out by Sylvain Lefèvre and Andréanne Brunet-Bélanger. The case study covered the first phase of development of the Collective of Quebec Foundations Against Inequalities (until 2019).

The update will respond to the need to perfect our knowledge of the development process of the Collective in order to make available the conditions for the emergence and development of this innovative initiative. This will aim to achieve the following objectives.

  • Perfect our understanding of the emergence process of the Collective by capturing, among other things, key information (representations of the Collective, motivations, interests, how the actions of the Collective percolate in their respective organizations) from the six organizations that have joined the Collective since the completion of the first study on the latter and those who have seen their involvement somewhat transformed (the case of several foundations).
  • Present a critical feedback, challenges of collaboration, on the collaborative process that led to the genesis of the Collective and to the development of tools made available to its members to achieve the objectives of the Declaration.
  • Qualify the type of collaboration (action in networks and not “collaboration between foundations linked to the joint financing of one or more projects”; strengths and limits of this type of collaboration) and make links with elements on the theory of foundations .
  • Present the tools developed and take a tour of the activities of the Collective carried out since 2019.
  • Identify the spinoffs – impacts of the creation of the Collective on the philanthropic ecosystem.
  • Identify the elements of the situation (socio-economic and socio-political) that have evolved since the first conversations that led to the creation (2015) then to the evolution of the identity framework of the Collective (over the last seven years).
  • Present a brief portrait of the member foundations of the Collective.
  • Identify, if possible, the procedures for making transparent the information that will result from the use of the internal management tools put forward by the member foundations of the Collective.
  • Generate action-oriented products (Knowledge Valorization Plan).
