Case study on the Recovery Fund of the Foundation of Greater Montreal from a perspective of philanthropy of trust

Description

This partnership research proposal was established in response to a need expressed by the Foundation of Greater Montreal to document:

  • The creation of the Recovery Fund recently set up by the foundation
The philanthropy of trust approach as a frame of reference for the foundation’s ongoing strategic reflection

The project will be under the direction of the Foundation of Greater Montreal, representing the Regroupement DEI Qc. It will mobilize a research team from Philab Québec hub. Research is a partnership in the sense that, from the definition of the research proposal to the exploitation of the results, Fondation Grand Montréal undertakes to be involved in the various operations of the project and to provide the support required for the mobilization of the data that will be to collect and analyze.

The methodological protocol is composed of three methods: a review of writings to support a contextualization and present elements of the problem related to the philanthropy of trust (Trust Based Philanthopy); conducting interviews with professionals involved in the creation of the recovery fund.

Research objectives

  1. Develop a review of writings and an analytical reflection on the Philanthropy of Trust.
  2. Document the process of emergence and development of the Recovery Fund.
  3. Identify lessons learned from the process of emergence and development of the Recovery Fund.
  4. Develop a reflective analysis with the Foundation of Greater Montreal to assess how the philanthropy of trust can represent a frame of reference for a strategic requalification of the foundation’s interventions.
