Ethnocultural perspectives and practices in philanthropy and entrepreneurship engagement

Justification of research project

Recognizing this demographic shift and the diversity of the newcomer population who have made their home in Canada, the first part of this project seeks to explore the factors and motivations that contribute to philanthropic engagement by leveraging access to social finance amongst immigrants and newcomers amongst a small number of ethnocultural and diverse communities in the city of Calgary.

A first step to exploring this subject will be undertaking a review of the literature to determine where the gaps exist and how best to address those gaps. We anticipate that the literature review will help reveal how best to move forward and lay the groundwork to study a small number of ethnocultural communities in Calgary.

We also believe that Phase 1 of the project will be of considerable interest to a number of foundations and charities located in the province of Alberta.

Following the completion of the literature review, a detailed proposal and funding application will be developed along with an HREB application to our home university.
