First report of the ACCS now available

19 March 2021

The Advisory Committee on the Charitable Sector (ACCS) has released its first report. This is the first of several that are planned to be released this year. Peter Elson, Co-director of PhiLab, is a member of the ACCS and encourages all PhiLab partners, researchers, and students to read the report.

This initial report focuses on separating charitable purposes from activities to give charities more flexibility in achieving their goals; allowing appeals to the Tax Court of Canada to expedite the evolution of charitable purposes; and an appeal for the federal government to designate a “home in government”.

Both the ACCS and sector leaders such as Imagine Canada will be watching closely to see how the government responds to these initial recommendations.
